exploring the world of social media through the eyes of the connected
ABOUT
Hi! My name is Cheyenne Knight and I am a Nonfiction Writing major at the University of Pittsburgh.
I am also getting a minor in Fitness and certificates in Digital Media and Public and Professional Writing. Needless to say, I really like to write. I also really like social media, which can be both a blessing and a burden.
The purpose of this site aligns with my position as a Teaching Assistant for the Professional Uses
of Social Media course offered at Pitt. As someone who is interested in social media/digital media/digital marketing, it only seemed natural that I focus my project around some facet
of professional social media use.
Much of my interest in this topic lies in the idea of hyperconnectivity, or the heightened connectedness we experience through Web 2.0 and social media networks, and how we are
able to (or unable to, in some cases) disconnect from social media. I am also interested in authenticity and transparency and how those elements of social media are influenced by hyperconnectivity.
On this website, you will find a resource section that provides more information on
hyperconnectivity and what that looks like in our digital world. You will also find a blog
section where I post about working through how I try to balance my time between personal
social media usage, professional social media usage, and disconnecting from social media altogether. Lastly, there is a section of interviews on the topics of social media and hyperconnectivity with people who currently work in social media, who hold an
organization position in social media, or who want to eventually work in social media.
Thanks for visiting my page!
